Trees and drainpipes
Tree roots can grow into drainpipes, especially if they are already cracked, and cause blockage. They gradually block the sewers and prevent the wastewater from passing through. Tree roots could cause blockage or a flooded basement on your property. If the blockage is located on your property, you are responsible for taking care of it.
WE FILM THE SEWERAGE SYSTEM
By filming the municipal sewerage system with small cameras, we are able to spot if any roots need to be cut off. If you have a tree that is growing into VA SYD's drainpipes, it can be agreed that we cut down and remove the tree.
WILLOW AND POPLAR CAUSE THE MOST PROBLEMS
Different types of trees cause different kinds of damage. Large-crowned trees which require a lot of water are the ones that most often grow into the drainpipes. The root systems of fruit trees are too weak to penetrate the pipes, which is why it is better to plant fruit trees.
Willow and poplar are the two tree types causing the most damage. They should not be planted closer than 10 metres from the nearest drainpipe. For other tree types, the distance is 5 metres.
All trees planted close to water or sewage pipes must have a growth bed sufficiently big to cover the needs of a full grown tree. The growth bed must have enough soil volume, porous soil, nutrients, water and oxygen, and must not be covered by a hard surface.
