Wastewater in Malmö

The wastewater in Malmö is treated and purified at our two wastewater treatment plants: Sjölunda and Klagshamn.

To these plants sewage, and some rainwater, is led from households and industries. The water undergoes mechanic, biological and chemical purification before it is discharged into Öresund.

The discharged water complies with the emission standards and is almost as pure as the water in Öresund.

The heat generated from the wastewater is used in heating the houses of about 35,000 residents in Malmö.

The water is 20 degrees Celsius in the summer and 13 degrees Celsius in the winter.
