Wastewater in the Municipality of Lund

The sewage in the municipality of Lund is treated and purified at one of the nine wastewater treatment plants, of which the Källby Wastewater Treatment Plant is the largest.

The municipality of Lund has approximately 900 kilometres of sewer which collects wastewater from households and work sites, rainwater from hard surfaces and drainage water.

SEPARATE PIPES FOR RAINWATER

The sewer system in the municipality is to a large extent separated, which means that sewage (the wastewater that comes from households) and rainwater (stormwater) run in separate pipes.

The sewage pipes lead to the wastewater treatment plants within the municipality, and the stormwater pipes lead to the nearest water course.

In some central parts of Lund the sewage and stormwater run in the same pipes, a combined sewer.

Where do I throw cotton swabs?

In the waste basket, of course! This is where you throw cotton swabs, dental floss, sanitary napkins, tampons, cotton wool, cigarette butts, condoms, snuff, hair, cat litter, chewing gum, kitchen paper and other rubbish. Never flush rubbish down the toilet! It causes blockage and makes the purifying process more difficult.
