Developing the drinking water system
At the Drinking Water Department we are constantly focused on supplying quality assured water round the clock.
But we don't rest there. To be able to guarantee drinking water of a high quality in the future, we have to observe, as well as take an active part in, the development of environmental issues. One of our priorities is our water catchments. Here are a few examples of ongoing issues within this area:
MORE EFFICIENT PROTECTION OF THE GREVIE WATER CATCHMENT
Part of Malmö's drinking water comes from the Grevie groundwater catchment. To ensure a high water quality in the long term, we are reviewing the protected area around the water catchment. There will probably be changes in the geographic boundaries of the protected area, and in the regulations as to what is allowed within the area.

WE ARE WATCHING OUT FOR pesticides AND OTHER UNWANTED SUBSTANCES IN THE WATER
Our Drinking Water Department performs hundreds of tests on the drinking water in Malmö and Lund. The samples are taken both from the outlet of the water treatment plant and from our users' properties.
A more extensive examination is made on several occasions each year, when we look for and analyse pesticides residue in the water. These tests are also performed on the water from the Grevie groundwater catchment.
Most of our drinking water is bought from Sydvatten and not self-produced. Of course we are also examining the results of the water tests perfomed by Sydvatten.
By taking part in Sydvatten's water testing we are also watching the prevalence of other substances which, due to climate changes, may increase in the future.
