Testing the water for the presence of parasites
For ten years, analyses focusing on parasites such as Cryptosporidium have been performed on the waters and waterworks which supply VA SYD's customers with drinking water.
In these ten years, indications of the presence of the Cryptosporidium parasite have been found occasionally in the lakes where our customers' drinking water comes from: Lake Vombsjön, Lake Ringsjön and Lake Bolmen.
When incidences of the parasite have been found, analyses have been performed on the purified, outgoing drinking water from the waterworks. There have been no incidences of Cryptosporidium parasites in the outgoing drinking water to VA SYD's customers.
Analyses and purification treatment are performed by Sydvatten.
In VA SYD's Grevie groundwater catchment, the parasite has never been found. The Grevie groundwater catchment is tested by VA SYD's own laboratory.
Enhanced parasite protection in the water and sewerage sector
- We have confidence in the purification treatment we have today, says Erling Midlöv, Head of the Drinking Water Division at VA SYD.
- The current climate changes are changing the microflora in our waters. VA SYD and the entire water and sewerage sector is adapting to the changes, by developing more efficient disinfection processes. One method is to inactivate parasites like Cryptosporidium by ultraviolet light treatment.
