Costs and fees

Here you will find the fees for water and sewage in the municipalities of Lund and Malmö. Click on your municipality of residence in the left margin to find the appropriate information for you.

As a subscriber, or customer to VA SYD, you pay a fee for water and sewage handling. The fee is based on a rate which is specific for each municipality.

WHO DETERMINES THE FEES?

VA SYD has the entire responsibility for all matters concerning water and sewage in the member municipalities. This means that VA SYD has taken over the tasks which used to fall on different political authorities in each of the municipalities.

Now the water and sewage rates in the member municipalities are determined by the Representative Assembly of the joint authority, based on suggestions from each Ownership Committee and drafting procedure in the Authority Board.

WHY DO THE RATES DIFFER BETWEEN THE MUNICIPALITIES?

The water and sewage operations at VA SYD are financed through fees from the subscribers in our member municipalities. Each municipality is a separate operational area, where the water and sewage rates are determined separately. The water and sewage rates vary because of different conditions in our member municipalities. This was one of the important principles when the joint authority was formed.

WHAT ARE THE FEES USED FOR?

The water and sewage fees consist of installation fees and user fees. The installation fees cover the costs for connecting new subscribers. The user fees cover the costs for operating the public water and sewage system, as well as capital costs for investments in the distribution network, water treatment plants and other facilities.

What do the different fees mean?

Fee for flats
The fee for flats is a user fee which is included in the water and sewage rate that you pay for each housing entity. For an ordinary single-family house you pay one fee for flats. But if the house has a separate apartment with its own water supply, a fee must be paid for this too. The fee covers the costs for construction and maintenance of the water and sewage networks.

Stormwater fee
The stormwater fee is a user fee that is included in the water and sewage rate. The fee should cover the costs for drainage and treatment of rainwater and drain water from your property. The stormwater fee is the same for all single-family houses and is estimated from a reference standard of 200 square metres per year and home. Read more on this page about rates and fees.

Fixed fee
The fixed fee should cover, among other things, VA SYD's costs for meter reading, and check-ups and service of your water meter.

Quantity fee (variable fee)
Cost for each cubic metre of water supplied.

Installation fee
The Installation fee is a connection fee.
