Packaging material
- Sort at the Recycling Stations
Sort your packaging and newspapers at the Recycling Stations! Often there is also a box for used up batteries.
The Packaging and Newspaper Collection Service (FTI) is responsible for the Recycling Stations which you can find in several places all over Malmö and Burlöv. To find your nearest Recycling Station, go to FTI's homepage.

GETTING STARTED
It's not always easy to know how to recycle your household waste. A good way to start is to ask yourself:
Is this packaging?
YES!
Then it should be sorted at the FTI Recycling Station. Or, if your building has a collection station for plastic, glass, metal and paper packaging, drop it off there. Make sure the packaging carton is empty and clean before recycling it.
NO!
Most often this is residual waste and should be thrown into the ordinary bin under the sink. First, make sure it's not hazardous waste, medications or electronics. If you have food waste separation, put this in the designated food waste paper bag!
If you want more information, Sysav (South Scania Waste Company), has a handy A to Z list.

REMEMBER
All packaging material must be clean and dry before recycling.
Put the non-rigid plastic packaging in the same bin as the rigid plastic! Non-rigid plastic should also be clean and not sticky, and free of food remnants. Removing the food remnants is important for two reasons:
- Hygiene — the packaging material travels a long way from the kitchen to the recycling plant, which means that any food remnants will start to smell bad and attract vermin.
- Recycling — the non-rigid plastic must be clean so that it can be recycled into new raw material. If the plastic is too dirty it cannot be recycled, and the environmental benefit will be lost.
Always put coloured and clear glass packaging in separate recycling bins!
