What is food waste?

Food waste is what's left after you have prepared food or eaten.

EXAMPLES OF FOOD WASTE:

Vegetables, fruit, bread, meat and fish. Eggs and egg shells are also food waste, as well as fishbone and bones such as rib bones, bones from chops etc. Tea (tea bags and tea leaves), paper napkins and kitchen paper can also be recycled as food waste.

THIS IS NOT FOOD WASTE:

Certain shops sell biodegradable products, for example plastic bags or diapers. Such products are not digestible material and should not be sorted as food waste. Other things that don't count as food waste are cat litter, soil, ashes, snuff, cigarettes and chewing gum.
