Political influence

How do elected politicians exert influence over VA SYD?

VA SYD is a municipal authority. This means that the water and sewage operations in Lund, Malmö and Burlöv are not the responsibility of the municipalities.

The municipal authority has also taken over ownership of the works. However, the municipalities are still involved in overall matters of general policy affecting the authority's organisation, for example when a new member is to be incorporated into the authority, or new members of the authority's decision-making body will be elected.

THREE DIFFERENT DECISION-MAKING BODIES

The municipal governing body has been replaced by the Representative Assembly, which is the highest governing body, the Authority Board which is responsible for the current operations, and Ownership Committees representing each member municipality respectively. The purpose of the Ownership Committees is to maintain local influence in the authority's activities.
